Bildband Berlin is excited to host the launch of ‘Lange Weile’ by the Berlin based artist Tina Bara, as well as an exhibition of her work.
The photo book Lange Weile comprises a selection of 400 black + white photographs taken by Tina Bara between 1983 and 1989 in East Berlin and on her travels.
Combined with text in the form of subtitles, this is a book in the form of a film script.
Tina Bara looks from today’s perspective at the beginnings of her artistic and photographic work, combined with the search for feminine identity and a subversive, melancholy rebellion against the dictatorial system of the GDR.
Documentary photographs on a clandestine trip to Russia, forbidden photographs taken at the state owned VEB Buna chemical plant, and observations of punks and other young rebels are all interwoven with intense portraits and nudes.
Together with her own overlaid memories the photographs creates an intimate cosmos which, from a distance of some thirty years, recreates the atmosphere of a state and society that no longer exists.
