Harry Gruyaert – Roots and Edges – Book launch & Artist talk – Sat. Oct. 13th 6pm

We are very excited to host an evening with the Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert.

Born in a resolutely grey Belgium in 1941, his reimagining of it in colour on his return visits in the late 1970’s was a revelation.

Having worked on colour projects in Morocco and India, he had the experience and the distance to see it with new eyes, the beauty in it’s banality, and his love/hate relationship with his homeland. Influenced by paintings and cinema, his Kodakchromes of the rapidly Americanised but surreal landscape of Belgium has marked Gruyaert as a pioneer in European colour photography.
We will present his newly published books ‘Roots’ and ‘Edges’, amongst other titles from his career, spanning more than 50 years.
Gruyaert joined Magnum Photos in 1981 and now lives in Paris.

Many thanks to Editions Xaviar Barral and Thames & Hudson for their support.
