BR-ED 2024

"I met the architect Günther Domenig by chance on his building site in 1989. Shortly after reading a magazine article about his eccentric building, I spontaneously decided to drop by out of curiosity, without making an appointment. We got talking and he showed me around the concrete sculpture. I started to expose a few color films with my Nikon under his eyes. He made fun of the minimalism of my equipment, but I should send photos... - From then on, I accompanied the stone house for about four years until 1994 as the building-shell progressed. Photos of this work were first published in 1991 in the Japanese magazine A+U ("Architecture and Urbanism", No. 254), and further publications followed.

During my retrospective research into the photographs taken at the time, l decided in 2023, in collaboration with the Fotohof > Archive, to re-edit the photographic material. In keeping with the provocative subject matter and its own visual effects, a new selection was scanned from the original negatives.

This BR-ED edition STONED shows the architectural sculpture in the intermediate state of the early 1990s decidedly abstract: in Alexander Rosenkranz's edit and based on the raw scans, the images were inverted and laid out in large format across the double pages. The form and format of the publication, together with the laser print, reinforce the processual qualities. STONED is an invitation to a photographic-architectural, staggering visual experience."
