Transumanza, the hiking pasture industry, is an old, almost disappeared tradition in Lombardy. The shepherds lead 1,000 and more sheep from the lowlands to the mountains in spring and back in autumn. The animals follow an inner compass. Only the landscape that the shepherds cross with their herds year after year has changed radically over time and continues to change.
