Sibylle Bergemann is one of the most famous German photographers. For more than four decades, the Berliner created with great passion an extraordinary work of fashion and portrait shots, literary reports and atmospheric photo series. The focus was always on people. In the GDR, Bergemann worked as a freelancer and was continuously commissioned by various art and culture magazines. After the Wall came down, she was a co-founder of OSTKREUZ – the photographer agency and took photos for GEO, Die Zeit, Stern and the New York Times Magazine. The catalog for the exhibition in the Berlinische Galerie presents Sibylle Bergemann’s unique cosmos of images on different narrative levels and brings together over 200 photographs both from the museum’s collection and from the photographer’s estate.
