Christiane Kues – Auto PhD

Christiane Kues was in Los Angeles in 2013/14 with a travel grant from Hessian Cultural Foundation. In Auto PhD: Bodies, Parts and Paint, she takes a photographic look at the American metropolis. The city’s street network, which connects and separates everything, plays an important role as a motif and perspective – numerous photographs were taken from the car, showing the transition from street to sidewalk. In her pictures, Christiane Kues asks questions about overlapping social spaces and the effects of digitisation and the retreat into the private sphere on urban space.
