The analogue color photographs by filmmaker and photographer Bernd Fischer, taken on trips through the Soviet Union between 1990 and 1994, show the imploding of a world power in an engaging and artistically independent way. Street photography as observations of everyday life in times of change. The pictures of Bernd Fischer take us back to those amazing days, to a time when all over Eastern Europe a sudden hope of unlimited freedom emerged. A freedom along with the sense of loss of power and security.

Now Bernd Fischer, photographer and cameraman, is presenting for the first time one of his numerous photo series in book form. As a director, his work includes the documentary ‘Greetings from Dachau’, as a cameraman he is one of the makers of the internationally successful television series ‘Babylon Berlin’. He is a member of the German Film Academy and the European Film Academy. Bernd Fischer was awarded the German Television Prize and the German Camera Prize.
