Saturday 12th October 2019 from 18:00-21:00
We are very proud to host the artist and singer/songwriter Michael Stipe for the launch of his new book ‘Our Interference Times: a visual record’, published by Editore Damiani. Michael Stipe will talk about his life-long passion for photography and its potential to produce a defining image of our times. After the talk Michael Stipe will sign his books.
In ‘Our Interference Times: a visual record’, multifaceted artist Michael Stipe has collaborated with the writer and artist Douglas Coupland on an investigation of how analog imagery is crashing on the shores of our digital future. For half of his life, Michael Stipe has lived in a world between worlds, a constantly shifting moiré pattern. The past world is defined by the analog, the future world by digital. It was the advent of digital technologies and their integration into our daily lives some 30 years ago that hurled us headfirst into this tumultuous in-between state.
As a member of R.E.M., Stipe was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. He also was in charge of R.E.M.’s visual aspect, often selecting album artwork and directing many of the band’s music videos.
In cooperation with Editore Damiani.
